  • Talk about what features of home are familiar and special
    • Rooms – Bed room, dinning room, kitchen, lounge room
    • Uses – Sleeping, Playing, Eating, Keeping warm, Keeping cool, Stay out of the rain.

Recognise why some places are special to people.

Recognise that places can be represented on maps and a globe and why places are important to people.

Observe the familiar features of places and represent these features and their location on pictorial maps and models.

  • Ask the child to talk, write or draw about a space that is special to them
  • Ask the child to draw a map of their home and surrounding features.

Share observations in a range of texts and use everyday language to describe direction and location.

  • Ask the child to describe how to get to a place that is special to them

Reflect on their learning to suggest ways they can care for a familiar place.
